Welcome to the EDIS Page

What is EDIS?     The Ford Electronic Distributorless Ignition System

It offers the ability to uniquely map an advance curve to precisely match your engine's needs, rather than relying on a mechanical advance curve constrained by weights, spring tension, and inlet vacuum, and unlike the mechanical system, EDIS is not subject to wear.  Once programmed, it remains set.

The following pages show information on how this can be adapted to fit the B, and whom to contact for the parts.

As featured in MG Enthusiast magazine

Martin - "Starting is easier, idling is smooth during warm-up, and it will easily rev to 6000rpm.  I have seen 50mph in second gear, it is that free revving.  Obviously a standard engine will not see 6000rpm as easily, I have a balanced 1860cc engine, Stage 2 head and 714 camshaft which helps, but the earlier problems of erratic points is now consigned to history."

Matthew - "The benefits from a mapped system have to be experienced to be appreciated, throttle response is razor sharp, economy is improved and tractability (especially with more radical cams) is amazing. In my own experience an engine converted from a centrifugal advance type of system to a mapped system undergoes a transformation."

Garry - "I've just been out for my first run in it with the EDIS system fitted and the difference is amazing, its more responsive, smoother and pulls better. I'll be honest if I'd spent £400 on a Peter Burgess head and got the same improvements I'd have been happy." Later, "Started from cold this morning with hardly any choke required. On the points it needed full choke and always struggled to get up my rather steep drive."
