And a big thank you to all for photos, information and assistance. Also, I have sold my black 1980 MG BGT. I felt I had taken the upgrades about as far as I wanted in the end. I have since bought a 1969 tax-exempt BGT without a sunroof to allow me to complete my T16 supercharger project. In the meantime I won't mention what the daily driver is (clue - it's a 21st Century MGB by Japanese maker of noted small sports cars). However, my 1980 proved for me that the rubber bumper cars could be made to handle as well as any chrome bumper car and look equally as good (ok, by removing the bumpers and going Sebring or fitting chrome bumpers and lowering it!) but in all seriousness apart from the fact you have to pay tax, there's no reason why a rubber bumper B or Midget can't be equally as much fun and equally as quick through the bends as the earlier cars. More to the point any B can be made to put out more power without necessarily busting the bank balance, and the BGT can more than stand up for itself in modern traffic. 3 trips from Chester to Aberdeen last year in 2009 and numerous trips to Liverpool, Huddersfield, Bradford, and other towns on business does prove it can also be reliable as standard, or with period modifications. May she have as much fun in the hands of her new owner!
